Random: Photoshop Substitutes or Alternatives

Long ago in high school, I dabbled in Photoshop as part of an animation class (we also used AutoCAD and 3D Studio). Now days, I limit my image editing to mostly touching up personal photos. For that purpose, the basic editor in Picasa is often adequate, especially if "I'm feeling lucky." But the editor lacks some very simple options, such as resampling a photo to make it smaller, or crop and combine multiple photos.

For the longest time, I would use GIMP (The GNU Image Manipulation Program). But that program always feel odd and unnatural. So, I am happy to find a new "program" I like: pixlr.com/editor. It is an online photo editor/app, which can be a downside. I used it on Chrome and it ran well, though I suspect it would work just as well on Firefox or IE. Furthermore, it has the Photoshop feel, and I was able to figure out how to change the canvas sizes and merge graphs from 2 different image files into 1 file the first time I use it - without having to look up any sort of help file.
